Breast Procedures

We women are incredibly aware of the appearance of our breasts—maybe even more than men are. Breasts are sexual and sensual, a big part of what makes us women; and they can dictate our sense of attractiveness and desirability. Beautiful breasts needn't be just the privilege of youth. Today, many procedures that alter the appearance of the breast are available. You can do most of these procedures as an outpatient, under twilight anesthesia.
  • Breast Augmentation (implants). One of the most popular types of cosmetic surgery, breast augmentation with either saline or silicone implants provides a very natural look. Saline implants allow minimal incision breast augmentation; the scars are virtually invisible. Certain implants are adjustable following insertion, enabling fine-tuning of the look and feel. Implants can be placed either under the muscle or under the breast, and through incisions placed in the armpit, around the areola, in the breast fold, or even through the belly button. As with all cosmetic surgery, Dr. Copeland works closely with you to determine the ideal size, shape, placement, and location of the implant.

  • Breast Augmentation (natural) It is now possible for you to enlarge your breasts without resorting to implants!  Specially prepared fat taken from another part of the body, such as the stomach or hips, is placed under the breast tissue to provide increased breast size without the need for artificial implants. The technique is called autologous fat transfers and autologous simply means "your own." And who doesn't have a little fat to spare? The procedure can be performed as an out-patient without the need for general anesthesia.

  • Breast Reduction. Breasts that are too large can cause more than just a body-image problem. This is a condition that can cause pain and discomfort, impairing a person's ability to lead an active life. Breast reduction surgery removes excess breast tissue and reshapes the contour of the breasts so that they are smaller and perkier. Breast reduction in men and teenage boys, known as gynecomastia, has been shown to improve self-image.
    • Breast-reduction surgery with smaller scars is now possible. Dr. Copeland uses a minimal incision technique (Le Jour), eliminating the need for large scars while providing a pleasing breast contour and shape.

    • Scarless Breast Reduction (liposuction) is now also possible for individuals who want reduction without lifting. Recovery is rapid, and there is virtually no scarring. Breast lipo is also a quick and effective way of correcting breast asymmetry.

    • Gynecomastia—over-developed or enlarged breasts—is common in men of any age. The condition may occur due to hormonal changes, heredity, disease, or the use of certain drugs. Gynecomastia can be more than just a physical problem; it can cause emotional discomfort and impair the self-confidence of adolescents as well as adult males. Dr. Copeland uses a virtually scarless technique to reduce the male breast. This can be performed as an outpatient procedure, under twilight anesthesia.
  • Breast Lift (mastopexy). The body is subject to the laws of gravity. As we age, breast tissue loses elasticity and droops and sags. A breast lift is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts, without changing the size of the breast. The procedure involves removing excess skin and tightening the breast. Dr. Copeland is able to perform these procedures using minimal scar techniques.

  • Breast Reconstruction. Breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery is often an important step in a woman's recovery process—and an extremely emotional one. Dr. Copeland guides the patient through this difficult time, helping her make the decisions necessary to create a beautiful, natural appearance and get on with her life.
