PRP Hair Restoration

New York, NY

Introduction to PRP Hair Restoration

More than 80% of men and nearly 50% of women will experience hair loss in their lifetimes. This can be due to hormonal changes, autoimmune problems, nutritional deficiencies, or simply genetics. To address hair loss, many patients opt for hair restoration techniques that involve the surgical transplantation of follicles from one area of the scalp to another. These techniques are effective, though they may involve longer recovery times due to the intensive nature of the procedures.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair restoration offers a minimally invasive alternative to surgical procedures by prompting the patient’s own healing process to regenerate and restore hair density. Dr. Copeland and Dr. Copeland-Halperin recommend PRP hair restoration for their patients who might otherwise not want to undergo extensive downtime to restore their natural hair growth. Read on to learn more about how PRP hair restoration can help you!

What is PRP Hair Restoration?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair restoration is a minimally invasive technique to restore hair growth and density by using the patient’s own plasma to stimulate their natural healing process. The PRP hair restoration procedure involves taking a patient’s blood and using a centrifuge to separate out their plasma, which is then re-injected into the areas of low hair growth. The plasma revitalizes the region and prompts the regeneration of hair follicles.

Depending on the patient, the results from PRP hair restoration injections are similar to those of follicular transplants and, in some cases, may even exceed those that can be achieved through surgical procedures.

What Are the Benefits of PRP Hair Restoration?

PRP hair restoration has numerous benefits above and beyond traditional surgical hair restoration techniques. Our patients have reported the following benefits from their PRP hair restoration procedures:

  • Visible improvement in hair growth and density
  • Ability to regrow patient’s own natural hair and recapture their original, youthful hairline
  • Faster recovery times when compared to traditional surgical procedures
  • Minimally-invasive treatment

Who Are the Best Candidates for PRP Hair Restoration?

PRP hair restoration can benefit patients of any age and across genders, and is recommended PRP hair restorations for patients who meet the following qualities:

  • Mild hair loss
  • Prefer to avoid more intensive surgical procedures
  • Unable to take extended periods of downtime for recovery
  • Maintain realistic expectations for what a PRP hair restoration can accomplish

Dr. Copeland and Dr. Copeland-Halperin advise prospective patients that PRP hair restoration is better suited and recommended for patients experiencing recent hair loss or thinning hair rather than attempting to address complete baldness. Please schedule a consultation to understand better how PRP hair restoration could help your particular follicular situation.

Your PRP Hair Restoration journey

What’s the First Step?

If you are a strong candidate for PRP hair restoration, please schedule a consultation at our office in New York City, NY, located directly across the street from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Dr. Copeland or Dr. Copeland-Halperin will review your medical history, evaluate your areas of hair loss for potential growth and restoration, and show you “before” and “after” pictures of previous patients so that you may get a sense of what can be possible with a PRP hair restoration procedure.

Dr. Copeland or Dr. Copeland-Halperin will then recommend a customized PRP hair restoration treatment plan to address your unique needs and deliver optimal results. If you agree with the plan, our patient care coordinator will be able to help you schedule your first appointment.

What to Expect on the Day of PRP Hair Restoration Treatment

When you are ready to begin your PRP hair restoration treatments, Dr. Copeland or Dr. Copeland-Halperin will meet with you once more to ensure that you are both aligned on your treatment plan and the areas to be targeted in your appointment. Your blood will then be drawn and placed into a centrifuge to separate out the plasma that will be key to regenerating your original hair.

The targeted areas of your hair loss will then be cleansed with alcohol and prepped to receive the PRP injections. You may feel tiny pricks, but the sensation is generally mild and tolerable. You can return home or work the same day when your treatment is complete.

PRP Hair Restoration Recovery

The most common side effects our patients experience after receiving a PRP hair restoration procedure are mild swelling, itching, and, in some cases, a mild headache. These side effects are normal and temporary as the PRP injections work to stimulate the body’s healing and regeneration process.

If you are feeling more discomfort than you would like to tolerate, ice packs applied to the area or taking over-the-counter pain management medication are recommended. Regular use of Dr. Michelle Copeland Skin Care Rewind Revitalizing Shampoo and Reparative Conditioner will help make hair visibly thicker and fuller.
